May 1, 2013. 3M Cloud Library now includes titles from all Big Six Publishers. The 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service will add titles from Hachette Book Group to its catalog of offerings, giving readers access to books from popular authors including James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks. Hachette Book Group’s full eBook catalog will be available to libraries with no delay on new titles. The new agreement with Hachette Book Group means that 3M Cloud Library now offers content from all of the Big Six publishers. The service’s continuously growing list of publishers now numbers more than 300. <<more>>

April 12, 2013. 3M Cloud Library unveils better tools, more titles. 3M Library Systems announces the launch of a new Catalog Acquisition Tool for the 3M Cloud Library, designed to give librarians more features to help manage content and to make the buying experience easier. Along with the new CAT, 3M has signed agreements with new publishers to continue building on its extensive and varied list of titles. New additions include Random House Mondadori, which will add to the service’s collection of Spanish titles, as well as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, including their strong list of children’s content. <<more>>

The 3M Cloud Library App is available in Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Apps store, making it easier for owners of NOOK tablets to borrow eBooks from local libraries. June 21, 2012. 3M Cloud Library Comes to Glendale and Pasadena Public Libraries. The 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service will be introduced to patrons at the Glendale and Pasadena Public Libraries. Along with the Glendale and Pasadena Public Libraries, a number of other libraries across the country have now made the 3M Cloud Library available to patrons, including St. Paul Public Library, Minn.; Richland County Public Library, S.C.; Addison Public Library, Ill.; Douglas County Libraries, Colo.; Darien Library, Conn.; Richland County Public Library, S.C.; Mobile Public Library, Ala. and the State Library of Kansas on behalf of the Kansas Digital Library Consortium. 3M continues to seek feedback from both patrons and staff at these locations on the service’s ease of use and functionality, using their input to refine the system. <<more>>
June 12, 2012. Penguin Group (USA) launches library lending pilot program. Penguin Group (USA), The New York Public Library,and 3M today announced a pilot project that will make Penguin eBooks available to patrons of both The New York Public Library and the Brooklyn Public Library. The pilot program will begin in August and, if successful, could be rolled out across the US.Under the initial phase of the pilot, eBooks will be made available to libraries for one-year with renewable terms. Library patrons will be able to access eBooks remotely utilizing public-library compatible reading devices. Titles will be available for lending six months after initial publication. <<more>>
June 7, 2012. 3M Donates Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) to National Standards Organization (NISO). 3M Library Systems and NISO have joined together in an effort to drive future innovation of the Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) as an American National Standard. Originally this was developed by 3M to provide a common communication language that would drive adoption of self-service systems for libraries. SIP has become the defacto standard for the communication between self-service devices and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) globally. <<more>>

The 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service will be introduced to the public today in an open house event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Sun Ray location of the Saint Paul Public Library. The library will install a Model 9100 3M Detection System, 3M SelfCheck System, and 3M Command Center which will, collectively provide the library with statistical reporting capabilities to allow detailed item and financial reports along with status reports of the library’s equipment. <<more>>

In a move that places it in direct competition with established competitors, 3M Library Systems will launch a new service called the 3M Cloud Library. 3M aims to provide libraries with an e-book lending service that's easy for library patrons to use and for libraries to manage, with a competitive collection of titles. 3M is no newcomer to the library market. The company has been involved with libraries for 40 years, initially through theft-detection products like its Tattle-Tape Strips and exit control gates and eventually through modern innovations like selfcheck stations, automated return and sorting equipment, and many products based on RFID technology. With the launch of this new set of e-book-related offerings, 3M expands its presence in libraries beyond products geared toward a library's physical collection into the realm of electronic materials

Two of the top competitors in the library-focused RFID and library security products arena, 3M Library Systems and Checkpoint Systems, have consolidated their efforts to produce and market products to libraries. The arrangement, announced October 29, 2007, results in melding the 3M Library Systems marketing channels with products from Checkpoint Systems. Effective the beginning of 2008, 3M Library Systems will serve as the exclusive worldwide distributor and service provider for Checkpoint’s family of products oriented toward libraries.
