March 7, 2013. The Swedish Axiell Group in global expansion: Acquisition of Adlib Information Systems makes Axiell the largest in Europe. Axiell Group AB develops and supplies advanced IT systems and services for archives, museums, libraries and schools. The acquisition of the Dutch company, Adlib Information Systems, makes Axiell the largest player in Europe in relation to museums and archives, and confirms the company’s position as one of the five largest players in the global market. January 27, 2013. Axiell's EDI-Hub processes its 10,000th file. Many of Axiell’s UK public library customers are using its EDI-Hub for Electronic Data Interchange to automate the order to invoicing processes for library stock, including acknowledgements and quotes from suppliers such as Askews & Holts and Bertrams Library Service. December 13, 2012. Axiell CALM Limited announces pioneering new Open Linked Data feature in Calm 9.3. The latest release of Calm 9.3 makes Linked Data functionality available for the first time in UK commercial collections management software. Calm 9.3 allows archive services and museums to link to sources such as the British National Bibliography, to allow customers to connect instantly to external sources such as Wikipedia, or to explore collections more deeply through the use of interesting interfaces such as maps. <<more>>


July 27, 2012. North East Lincolnshire Library Service gets savvy with Axiell’s SaaS LMS and digital library portal. North East Lincolnshire Libraries has chosen to replace its existing library management system with Axiell’s Open Galaxy and has chosen a new customer-facing interface: Axiell’s 24/7 digital library website system, Arena. The installation went live in April, allowing the county to see a dramatic improvement in the library website as part of a wider upgrade of the Library Service system. <<more>>


April 30, 2012. RNIB chooses Axiell to enable a better book choosing experience for blind and partially sighted people. The Royal National Institute of Blind People has chosen Axiell as its development partner to create an innovative new way for blind and partially sighted people to access the charity’s library catalogue to enable them to choose, borrow and buy books and audio items from the RNIB’s central library. The system being developed for RNIB is termed the Reading Business Service and involves developing Axiell’s innovative customer-facing Arena library web portal to the OpenGalaxy library management system used by a third of local authorities in the UK. <<more>>

November 8, 2011. Axiell presents award to the Digital Cultural Institution of 2011. UK and Scandinavian cultural services and technology expert, Axiell, regularly presents an award to recognise the Digital Cultural Institution of the Year. The winner, Jönköping School Library Service, Sweden, was chosen for its tremendous success in enabling students, teachers and parents to work digitally 24/7 through its use of Axiell Arena’s library web portal to develop an online digital knowledge bank and to support learning in innovative ways. In the proposal it was mentioned that the school library service in Jönköping has been a front runner and the first school system to develop its services in such an innovative way. <<more>>

Rethinking Libraries? is the theme of Axiell’s third symposium; speakers from the UK, Scandinavia and USA will address key challenges such as improvements in efficiency, opportunities for savings and scope for reorganisation. The symposium is also futuristic in its approach, looking beyond the present day for views on the next steps that libraries should take and how to meet the upcoming challenges in the cultural sector. August 25, 2011. Joel Sommerfeldt has been appointed new CEO for Axiell Group AB. Joel Sommerfeldt, previous CEO for Kelva AB and board member of Axiell Group AB, will take over the position as CEO for Axiell Group AB – the European leading vendor producing IT services and systems to archives, libraries and museums. Joel Sommerfeldt will take up office the 1st of January 2012 after Jerk Sintorn, who will still work for Axiell but in another position. Joel Sommerfeldt succeeds Jerk Sintorn, Axiell’s incumbent CEO who after 16 years of leadership has decided to step down devoting himself to other tasks in Axiell. <<more>>


July 5, 2011. Axiell strengthens its business by creating a new company to focus on Archives, Museums and Local Studies. Axiell announces the launch of a new company specialising in Collection management for Archives, Local Studies and Museums. The new company, Axiell CALM Limited, previously operated as a separate business unit within Axiell Ltd, supplying the Calm collection management system used by over 400 Archives, Museums and Records Offices. Malcolm Howitt, previously Axiell Business Manager for Calm, has been appointed Managing Director of Axiell CALM. <<more>>


June 20, 2011. Surrey Libraries to get next generation service whilst tax payers save money. Library visitors and staff across Surrey, UK are to get the latest technology kit and services while tax payers save money - thanks to a new technology deal with Axiell UK. Surrey County Council’s new contract will let library visitors enjoy free Wi-Fi in any of the Council’s libraries and visitors using the library computers will sit down at brand new PCs. The self-service machines used to borrow, return and renew books and DVDs will also be upgraded, making them quicker and easier to use and readying them for the next generation Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Staff will also benefit from new PCs with the IT administration managed centrally for improved computer performance and better service to library users. The IT network throughout all the libraries will be completely replaced and the OpenGalaxy library management system that staff use to manage the stock and catalogue will be upgraded. <<more>>


June 6, 2011. Danish local history archive now available on Europeana, Europe’s National Heritage database. Fascinating 100 year-old newspapers, images, music and ephemera from Roskilde in Denmark are now available worldwide thanks to their inclusion in the European cultural database Europeana. The online database brings together material from 27 countries and already includes 15 million records which can be searched simultaneously. Roskilde Local History Archive uses Axiell’s Calm collection management technology which makes it possible to display its cultural history on the web. Renowned for its large image collection, Roskilde has made over 6000 images available to Europeana through data harvesting from Calm, with subsequent additions to come. Roskilde has named its version of Calm Roskildiana. Roskildiana contains mostly local historical pictures from Roskilde including some of photographer Kristian Hude's famous images from the early 1900s. <<more>>


January 25, 2011. Cooperation across borders increases better service. More and more municipalities and councils cooperate on library services in order to make their library even more efficient with a higher degree of service for the library users. This is a significant trend in many countries – among others in the UK, where the London Libraries Consortium continues to increase its amount of members. In the last two months the London Libraries Consortium has increased by two new members - Lewisham and Royal Borough of Kingston and now consists of 14 boroughs. The London Libraries Consortium is giving borough residents access to over 6 million items from 150 library branches across London. <<more>>

December 30, 2010. Axiell changes its name. Axiell has changed its name from Axiell Library Group AB to Axiell Group AB. The reason for this is that Axiell has broadened its target group not only to handling the libraries – but also archives and museums – and this has to be reflected in our new name. <<more>>
