PROVO, Utah—May 26, 2005-Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced a partnership with Cymphonix, Inc. (Salt Lake City, UT), the premiere provider of network management solutions for business, government, and educational institutions in the United States. Through the partnership, Dynix is introducing LiveNetwork, a managed service offering through which libraries will gain unprecedented levels of control in administering their computer networks.
LiveNetwork provides libraries with real-time visibility of bandwidth usage by application, category, or user, enabling management to understand at a glance who and what is using or abusing network bandwidth. The service allows system administrators to make real-time adjustments to the network through an elegant, easy-to-manage interface and is unique in its ability to provide bandwidth management tools to libraries that were previously accessible only to large corporations.
"Many libraries maintain complex computing networks to support staff processes, provide users with access to online catalogs, and to maintain public-access workstations, but libraries don't want to be in the business of managing networks-they want to be librarians, not network specialists," said Dynix President and CEO Jack Blount. "Through our partnership with Cymphonix, we are pleased to be launching LiveNetwork, an unrivaled solution that easily helps libraries to monitor and control activity across their networks."
"We looked for the industry leader of integrated library systems to deliver our revolutionary network management technology to the library market," said Kevin Santiago, president and CEO of Cymphonix. "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Dynix in the launch of LiveNetwork, a service that will help libraries to manage, prioritize, and shape all their network traffic, enabling them to maximize the optimization of their valuable bandwidth."
With the launch of LiveNetwork, Dynix becomes the exclusive Cymphonix partner for the library community, providing users with a single contact for sales and support. Dynix is pleased to offer LiveNetwork to all libraries, not just those running ILS systems from Dynix.
LiveNetwork is the first in a comprehensive suite of managed service offerings that Dynix plans to release this year. This suite of managed services, known as LiveOperations will soon be expanded to include ILS application monitoring, database monitoring, hardware fault monitoring for servers, network, and storage devices, as well as software patch management.
"As a system administrator who installed Cymphonix Bandwidth Composer several months ago, I am thrilled to learn that Dynix is partnering with Cymphonix to offer LiveNetwork," said Eileen Kontrovitz, head of automation at Ouachita Parish Public Library (Monroe, LA). "We have been extremely pleased with the service, which enables us to track our bandwidth usage in real time and provides valuable insight into what services are being used both on staff and public machines. Should the need arise, the system empowers us to quickly and easily curtail certain types of network traffic."
Kontrovitz said she has also been very impressed with the product's logs, which are able to provide detailed reports on what Internet sites are visited by network machines, helping system administrators and library directors understand how their workstations are being used.
LiveNetwork is now available for new and existing customers. For more information or for a product demonstration, reach Dynix at 800-288-8020.
Cymphonix Inc., headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT with offices in Langley, WA, establishes control of traffic at the edge of the network, accelerating mission critical application performance by 300 to 500 percent. Its products are unique in allowing companies to easily manage and shape applications at the packet level, thereby prioritizing critical traffic while controlling destructive and less productive applications that access networks by finding open ports. Network Composer shapes network traffic, eliminates spyware, and provides a more professional and effective alternative to mainstream content filtering solutions. These products help companies understand visually who and what is abusing network bandwidth, enabling problems to be corrected quickly through an elegant, easy-to-manage interface. Network Composer offers solution providers bandwidth management tools for their customers that have previously been affordable only to the enterprise.
