WASHINGTON, June 23, 2007 -- SirsiDynix, the global leader in strategic technology solutions for libraries, is introducing SirsiDynix Symphony, the company's new integrated library system that blends the best features of SirsiDynix Unicorn® and SirsiDynix Horizon 8.0/Corinthian to offer the most impressive array of library and consortium management solutions available to the library community.
SirsiDynix Symphony is the culmination of Project Rome, which SirsiDynix announced in March 2007 as part of the company's strategy to create a single, holistic library technology platform. This announcement is being made during the American Library Association 2007 Annual Conference here in Washington, D.C.
"Our mission at SirsiDynix is to work alongside our clients to provide comprehensive, integrated solutions that assist libraries and consortia in running their operations better and smarter, while equipping them to serve their users," said Talin Bingham, SirsiDynix chief technology officer. "SirsiDynix Symphony will offer our clients the stability, quality and performance they need to fulfill this strategic role.
"And when a library or consortium considers that SirsiDynix Symphony is built on the proven Unicorn architecture -- which supports more libraries in the world than any other single library system -- and will feature powerful new capabilities from the Horizon 8/Corinthian project, I'm confident they will recognize SirsiDynix Symphony to be an impressive new platform for today and into the future," said Bingham.
SirsiDynix Symphony incorporates open, industry-standard technologies, offering the library community the most impressive list of features and capabilities. These include a service-oriented architecture (SOA), software-as-a-service (SaaS) options, power library "user experience" portal and search solutions, comprehensive integrated library management and productivity solutions, Java-based staff clients for all modules, fully documented application programming interfaces (APIs), Unicode support, advanced business intelligence and reporting tools, support for SIP2 and NCIP and support for the Oracle relational database management system.
SirsiDynix Symphony also includes new features, functions and modules, including Books by Mail, Collection Exchange, new portal capabilities and Web-based staff clients. A full suite of professional services -- implementation, training, support, data and consulting -- is also available with the system.
"The SirsiDynix family consists of more than 7,000 independent library institutions, which are working to meet the needs of millions of people around the world," Bingham said. "Together, SirsiDynix and our clients are serving demanding information consumers in new and exciting ways. It's the sum of all our efforts. Yet, it's also the power of one. One library where people discover information. One information consumer reaching new heights thanks to the library. One vision for bringing together technology solutions that empower libraries and consortia to run better while undertaking exciting initiatives that address new demands for information and resources."
SirsiDynix is the global leader in strategic technology solutions for libraries -- vital institutions whose primary mission is to make sense of the vast world of information for people and communities. This is an exciting role as libraries assist people in discovering and using knowledge, resources and other valuable content for their educations, jobs and entertainment. In concert with key industry partners, SirsiDynix supports this strategic role for libraries by offering a comprehensive integrated suite of technology solutions for improving the internal productivity of libraries and enhancing their capabilities for meeting the needs of people and communities. SirsiDynix has approximately 4,000 library and consortia clients, serving more than 300 million people through more than 20,000 library outlets in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
