(Vancouver, Canada – May 21, 2008) SydneyPLUS International, a leader in information management is pleased to share how one of its clients, Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle conceived an innovative method of promoting the value of library services and resources. The firm provided a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit for lawyers when attending a SydneyPLUS OPAC training seminar.
Librarian, Heather Striebel, recently attended the SydneyPLUS National User Group meeting in Tempe, Arizona and discussed the outcome of her project. Although the firm has used the SydneyPLUS OPAC in the past, Heather felt that it was important to provide special training sessions when it became generally available over the firms intranet. The success of this event was largely due to Heather being able to organize and obtain CLE credits for her users. This process gave a level of legitimacy and formality to those attending the classes as not only did lawyers (as well as partners) get a chance to receive training in their workplace, it also underscored the importance of the information centers capabilities to all who attended.
Heather held five 30-minute classes with over thirty lawyers and partners attending. The training covered basic searching principles, examples of how to use the OPAC and promoted its other features such as RSS news feeds and access to journals and online databases. Overall, Heather views this as a complete success and would like to continue to provide such training to her clients!
