HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – July 24, 2009 – Bibliotheca Inc., open RFID solutions partner of choice to 400+ libraries worldwide, announced today that the Sunnyvale (Calif.) Public Library is purchasing a range of the company’s BiblioChip RFID technology-based sorting, security and self-check solutions, including a 21-bin automated materials handling (AMH) system that represents the library’s first investment in AMH technology.

Bibliotheca’s BiblioSort system is designed and tailored to meet the increasing circulation demands and fit within the architectural layout of the library. The system is built for future expansion as needed as it is composed of a 2-, 3-, and/or 5-way module that can be optionally cascaded in different directions and potentially supply up to 256 different destinations. This sorter expansion capability extends to the patron or return input stations as well, allowing up to 10 return stations to be managed.

Additionally, Sunnyvale Library is replacing its current self-check units with Bibliotheca’s new Orion series of self-service stations operating Innovative Interface’s Express Lane software. Bibliotheca BiblioChip technology is fully integrated with the library’s current software, Innovative Interface’s Express Check, allowing patrons and staff to operate under familiar, user-friendly interfaces. Stack processing of items, including multi-part media packs, as well as patent-pending BiblioConversion on the Fly software for easy transition from barcodes to RFID are key, time-saving features.

Other Bibliotheca BiblioChip investments include BiblioGate VI security gates, BiblioStaff Stations with patented shielded technology and BiblioChip open standard RFID tags.

"Our library customers expect a high quality library experience and want it as efficiently and as fast as possible, just as you would expect from residents of Silicon Valley," said Lisa Rosenblum, Library Director for the City of Sunnyvale. "So our goal in selecting Bibliotheca as an RFID partner is to capitalize on advanced self-service and automated sorting tools to enhance and grow the level of service our library offers the community."

"Sunnyvale Library is one of the highest-circulating libraries in California," said Lamar Jackson, Bibliotheca president and CEO. "The library’s challenge, which is to find ways to expanding community service requirements while staying in a consistently limited budget, is exactly the kind of solution Bibliotheca provides."

Adds Jackson, "Our 21-bin sorters and state-of-the-art Orion self-check stations will give library staff the time and bandwidth they need to manage the increasing demand for patron services – pushing these services to a whole new level."
