Swets announced today its newly developed eBooks procurement portal has entered into Beta Testing. The portal integrates a comprehensive eBook catalog and procurement options into existing SwetsWise services, most notably SwetsWise Subscriptions. These features will provide customers with a single source for eBooks purchasing and a means to select the desired access route to their acquired content, through publishers directly or an aggregator.

Swets has witnessed a steady increase in demand for eBook content over the past couple of years but its customers have raised issues with the complexity of the selection and acquisition processes that are currently available to them.

Swets is ideally suited to address these issues, thanks to its expertise in handling subscriptions to electronic content and in particular the complex pricing and access models associated with them.

"Our customers have been clear in asking for a single platform from which they can discover and compare available vendors and purchasing options for eBook content. Our new procurement portal will satisfy this need," states Debbie Dore, Chief Commercial Officer at Swets. "Thanks to the full integration with our existing SwetsWise services, it also creates a unique environment where librarians, information professionals, students and researchers can browse, acquire, access, manage and evaluate all of their purchased content, regardless of published format."

SwetsWise Subscriptions has already established itself as the most comprehensive subscriptions management and procurement service available, playing an essential role in the cost reduction efforts of thousands of libraries and information centers around the world. It facilitates the essential interaction with publishers needed to ensure the timely delivery of subscriptions in the format information users and knowledge workers require. Expanding SwetsWise’s scope to include eBooks enables customers to retain unprecedented control over all of their acquired content and provides them with a unique and attractive alternative to traditional book suppliers and other agencies.

The Beta Testing period for SwetsWise’s eBooks portal is expected to run until early February 2010.
