24 March 2010. Torfaen County Borough Council have this week celebrated a successful launch of the Talis Library Management System (LMS) suite of products after their decision to move from SirsiDynix Horizon in September last year. The Library service chose Talis to provide a range of modern library services to over 90,000 citizens and one of the key selection criteria was Talis' ability to integrate the LMS with wider Council systems, such as the finance system.
Alison Kershaw, Head of Products at Talis commented: "I would like to congratulate everyone on the successful go live of the Talis LMS. We are delighted that we delivered the project on time and on budget. The challenging timescales were able to be met due to the excellent working relationship the Torfaen implementation team and the Talis Consultancy team had in order to make this a success."
The Talis team made sure they were on hand at Torfaen library sites during the first day of operation in order to make sure that any issues were dealt with swiftly and that the staff had all the support required. The work to successfully convert and transfer the data from the previous system to the Talis Alto staff interface meant that Torfaen had a seamless move from one system to another, with minimum downtime and only a small amount of inconvenience to users of the service.
Christine George, Torfaen Library and Information Manager, commented on the implementation of the Talis Alto suite: "the Circulation module is working very well. It presents all the information that staff need to provide customers with a rapid, efficient service. Our casual staff have particularly found this to be a benefit. They are now able to deal with a wider range of customer facing situations, without additional support, and there is a direct benefit to customer service."
Torfaen have chosen several elements of the Talis suite of products. The new system will free up staff time by automating procurement through the Talis Electronic Supply Chain and improve end user experience through integration with existing self-service and PC bookings service. Torfaen citizens can search the new online catalogue using Talis Prism. The attractive interface utilises the Welsh language option available in the solution.
