Abstract: Serials Solutions announced the availability of the industry's first hosted proxy service, 360 Access Control. 360 Access Control is the industry’s first Software as a Service proxy solution that will help librarians streamline the management of their e-resource collections, as well as improve patron access to those collections with a single sign-on.Many librarians need the single sign-on offered by proxy services, which allow users to quickly access e-resources from all content providers without having to sign in repeatedly to access specific information. However, at the same time, librarians also want an easy-to-manage solution that is integrated with their data management workflow. With a hosted solution like 360 Access Control, librarians can take advantage of all the patron benefits of a proxy service and gain the benefits of automated administration capabilities.

SEATTLE – Dec. 10, 2010 – Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, today announced the availability of the industry's first hosted proxy service, 360 Access Control. 360 Access Control is the industry's first Software as a Service (SaaS) proxy solution that will help librarians streamline the management of their e-resource collections, as well as improve patron access to those collections with a single sign-on.

Many librarians need the single sign-on offered by proxy services, which allow users to quickly access e-resources from all content providers without having to sign in repeatedly to access specific information. However, at the same time, librarians also want an easy-to-manage solution that is integrated with their data management workflow. With a hosted solution like 360 Access Control, librarians can take advantage of all the patron benefits of a proxy service and gain the benefits of automated administration capabilities.

"With the unified administration offered through the Serials Solutions Client Center, the management of database tracking and associated patron access control is streamlined," said Tim Fujita-Yuhas, senior product manager with Serials Solutions. "Librarians no longer need to worry about configuring or troubleshooting services separately."

Another key aspect of 360 Access Control is its integration with Serials Solutions KnowledgeWorks, the company's comprehensive knowledgebase for its 360 family of services. KnowledgeWorks is populated with the most accurate metadata available from content providers around the world, an essential ingredient for reliable searching, linking and access.

"For librarians who don't want to implement and manage a proxy service, 360 Access Control is the perfect solution," said Fujita-Yuhas. "It is simple enough for the non-technical librarian to manage. Yet, at the same time, it brings valuable benefits by providing simple administration, integrated management of databases and their access, and a greatly improved user experience."
