Blacksburg, VA. The new MozGo Mobile App will soon be in production in several public libraries in the US and Canada. A few short weeks after being announced at the ALA Annual Conference, MozGo was purchased by three libraries: Richmond Public Library, Smyth-Bland Regional Library and Vaughan Public Library.
The announcement of MozGo was reported in the Library Technology Guides as follows: "Libraries want an affordable and reliable app that will provide the features patrons want without imposing additional work for already overburdened systems staff. Recognizing this need for a consistent, full-featured app that will make lives easier for both patrons and staff, VTLS developed MozGo. The name derives from the Hungarian word for mobile (mozgó). MozGo employs an innovative cloud-based "mobile mediator" to provide a flexible solution that can be used with almost any ILS. VTLS applies the library's branding to the MozGo app, tailoring it to each library." The full report can be read at http://www.librarytechnology.org/ltg-displaytext.pl?RC=16937
Smyth- Bland Regional Library in Virginia will be the first customer to go live with MozGo. Susan Martin, Technical Services Supervisor for Smyth-Bland Regional Library, in selecting MozGo remarked: "In search of an app, we found MozGo visually appealing and provided the functionality we desired for the convenience and ease of our patrons."
Mark Ellis, System Administrator at Richmond Public Library in British Columbia in selecting MozGo, stated: "We're very much looking forward to deploying MozGo for our mobile users both because of its support for Virtua and because of the enhanced features it offers with Virtua relative to other mobile products available to us."
Marilyn Guy, Director of Operations at Vaughan Public Libraries in Ontario, CA, noted about the decision to utilize MozGo: "We have been developing mobile library services to meet our patrons' needs, and MozGo seems like a perfect fit to our plan. It supports Virtua, offers the major features the mobile users want and provides a mobile friendly interface."
MozGo provides graphical display of information with efficient touchscreen navigation on displays that have been optimized for iPhone/iPod, with Android and iPad versions to be released in coming weeks. VTLS provides complete library branding of MozGo to make it your library's app, tailoring it to include your library's logo, desired color scheme and features you want to make available.
VTLS evaluated all the apps available for library catalog use and concluded that the offerings in the marketplace were either lacking in functionality, or were visually unappealing. VTLS decided to develop an app that all libraries could use. "The technology behind MozGo employs a cloud based mobile mediator making it simple to connect hand held devices to information sources. The flexibility of MozGo and its very appealing appearance are its strengths" said Vinod Chachra, President and CEO of VTLS Inc.
