Blacksburg. VTLS Inc. followed up the successful implementation of Virtua at the Hong Kong Public Libraries with an eventful year focused on strategic development and continuing sales success. Among the key software developments in 2012 were the MozGo Mobile App, designed to work with any ILS, and the addition of floating collections management to Virtua, featuring advanced automatic load-balancing capabilities. VTLS also signed contracts for 12 Virtua ILS systems, 26 Chamo and Chamo Discovery, 2 Fastrac RFID systems and 3 MozGo Mobile App implementations. In addition, VTLS continued to expand its expertise in providing Drupal-based solutions with 4 new contracts for Vorpal (VTLS Drupal solutions). In addition, the past year brought the introduction of the VTLS Open Skies Library Services Platform

The introduction of VTLS Open Skies, a new library services platform, has been a major new development initiative in response to feedback from existing customers and emerging trends in the library industry. With the Open Skies initiative, VTLS products are undergoing a substantial re-architecture of internal workings of the software and a whole new user interface. All functions within Virtua will follow the service oriented architecture. The development is taking place in stages, which results in a "morphing" process that allows a functional system to exist at all times. This development will fully unify the functionality of Virtua and VITAL, external databases and provide access to additional events and activities in the library. This staged approach will allow users to implement certain portions of Open Skies modules with the current implantation of Virtua or VITAL. The first Open Skies component, the MozGo Mobile App, was announced in June. The service oriented implementations of other library functions, like OPAC and circulations and digital asset management systems, will be introduced later this year.

Dr. Vinod Chachra, President and CEO of VTLS notes, "VTLS has invested a lot of development resources to make sure we meet the needs of the world's largest and most demanding public and academic libraries. Libraries owe it to themselves to look at VTLS to see why large and sophisticated libraries like Hong Kong Public Library, the Queens Borough Public Library in New York, and the Swiss National Library trust VTLS developed solutions."
