Helsinki Metropolitan Area Libraries (Finland) upgrades to Sierra Services Platform

Abstract: elsinki Metropolitan Area Libraries (HelMET) is upgrading to the Sierra Services Platform from the Millennium ILS. HelMET is comprised of the city libraries of Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, and Vantaa and serves more than a million customers in the metropolitan area. Circulation reaches 17 million a year and its Web site receives more than five million visits a year.


Emeryville, CA. Helsinki Metropolitan Area Libraries (HelMET) is upgrading to the Sierra Services Platform from the Millennium ILS. HelMET is comprised of the city libraries of Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, and Vantaa and serves more than a million customers in the metropolitan area. Circulation reaches 17 million a year and its Web site receives more than five million visits a year.

"When we chose Millennium as our library system, our main focus was on a robust library system which could successfully handle our 17 million circulations," says Jaana Tyrni, Director of Espoo City Library. "Upgrading to Sierra is a significant decision for HelMET Libraries that positions it for the world of social media and mobile access. In addition, we have chosen to upgrade to Sierra for its smooth staff workflow and greater access to the library database."
