White Bear Lake, MN (February 18, 2013) - Tech Logic announces a contract to install a custom Ultra-Sort system in the new Northside Branch Library in Santa Clara, California. The 5-bin automated sorting system with two exterior book drops, which will be installed this summer, has been designed to complement the new library's energy-efficient format. The groundbreaking ceremony took place last summer, and the project is well underway.
Library Sales Consultant Mike Heitzman said, "Over the past two years, it has been my pleasure to work closely with both Steinberg Architects and Julie Passalacqua, City Librarian for Santa Clara, on the design and integration of Tech Logic's premier automated materials handling solution for the new Northside Branch."
The Northside branch library is slated for LEED silver certification due to its environmentally-friendly plans, which include water-efficient landscaping, motion-controlled energy-saving light fixtures, and a white "cool" roof to reduce cooling costs.
Julie Passalacqua shared that plans for the branch have been discussed as early as the 1960s. After the city council approved the project in 2008, community input was gathered to ensure service of its diverse needs. Northside will feature a wide variety of activities and events for all ages, including educational programs. Community meeting space, computer labs, and digital materials will be available for all patrons.
The Santa Clara City Library, which consists of the Central Park facility and the Mission branch, has been ranked numerous times over the past decade as one of the top 10 public libraries in the U.S. Surpassing 1.5 million guests in 2011, the library has an annual circulation of nearly 3 million items.
