Blacksburg, VA – VTLS Inc. is pleased to announce that the Islamic Library of Brunei Darussalam has selected Virtua ILS and Chamo as the main components of its Islamic Digital Library System (IDLS). The IDLS project will include data conversion, cataloging, digitization and portal development. The implementation of Virtua and Chamo will improve the services provided by the existing tools in use at the library.
Islamic Library of Brunei Darussalam, locally known as Perpustakaan Islam Brunei Darussalam (PIB), is owned by the Government of Brunei and operated by the State Mufti Office. Currently, the library has a collection of more than 200,000 books, multimedia items and manuscripts. The implementation of Virtua and Chamo constitute a major step in fulfilling the goal of making PIB a complete Islamic knowledge reference center, providing services to the Muslim community throughout the world.
The IDLS is expected to be fully operational by mid-2013, when it will begin to play an important role in the development of libraries throughout Brunei. This is a significant first step of a broader project plan.
The Library staff is actively training in the new systems and anticipate process improvements which will reduce their workload and increase the services to their users.
"We are honored to have been selected by Perpustakaan Islam Brunei Darussalam," noted Gina Phan, Managing Director of VTLS Technologies Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia. "Together with our partner, we are excited about this first step in the process of providing a wide range of services to the growing community that the library serves in Brunei."
