Highlighting Softlink's commitment to the thousands of Alice libraries across the globe, we are proud to release the latest version of Alice to include RDA support, multimedia and picture searching as standard announced Softlink CEO Mr Kim Duffy.
"Since Alice was released more than a decade ago, we have continued to invest in the product and the technology," Kim said.
"During the past 10 years, there have been significant changes to the way library collections are managed. Today's libraries manage a diverse range of resource types including video, audio, music, photographic images, and other digital resources as well as traditional books and journals.
"These additions provide our long term valued customers with improved functionality to help manage their diverse collections and assist student access to contemporary learning resources," he said.
The new features include enhanced functionality, improved aesthetics and compliance with RDA standards for MARC21 records.
Supported Alice 7 customers will also benefit from enhanced multimedia management and picture search features as well as an easy to use search interface specially designed to engage younger users. The interface or OPAC, designed for primary school users, has been designed to help libraries engage students in learning from a young age.
RDA or the Resource Description and Access (RDA) standards replace the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2) as the preferred cataloguing standard for MARC21 records. Alice 7 will enable organisations to readily adopt RDA while simultaneously supporting AACR2 to support consistency of content.
Kim said Softlink was committed to the ongoing support and development of Alice to ensure that it remains an effective management solution for school and special libraries.
"Softlink will continue to monitor industry trends and provide leading knowledge, content and library management solutions to support the future of libraries," he said.
