14th May 2013, London: South Lanarkshire Council, which is responsible for providing IT services to school libraries and to South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Ltd has, following a mini-competition under a national framework agreement, chosen Civica, a market leader in specialist systems and business process services that help organisations transform the way they work, to host the Spydus library management system across 17 School Libraries and 25 Public Libraries. The new three year contract will transform each library's internal processes, whilst making it more convenient for citizens and staff to access resources in person and online.

The project will see libraries in the South Lanarkshire Council region using Civica's web-centric automated library management solution Spydus to improve processes such as book circulation, cataloguing, inter-library loans, stock rotation and home lending. The technology will also give citizens better access to make book reservations and use library information online.

Diana Barr, Libraries and Museums Manager from South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Ltd who deliver the Public Libraries service said: "The IT services to be provided by Civica will not only benefit current library members within the local community but will also encourage a wider range of users to utilise our Library services. People who previously didn't have time to the use their local library due to their busy work schedules will be able to use our resources in a more convenient and timely way that suits their needs."

Simon Parkes, Director at Civica said: "We're delighted that South Lanarkshire Council has selected Civica as its IT provider. This new IT service will improve library services and reach out into the community. The new application we're implementing will help both citizens and staff to access library resources wherever they are, from their own device. Libraries in the UK are having to evolve and transform the way they work with citizens. We think this project is a prime example of how to do that successfully."
