For libraries wanting to create customer-driven collections and make collection management workflows more efficient, Decision Center provides timely and focused action

Emeryville, CA, June 27, 2013. Innovative announced today that Decision Center, Innovative's comprehensive collection management solution, is now in general release. For libraries wanting to create customer-driven collections and make collection management workflows more efficient, Decision Center provides timely and focused action recommendations for budgeting, selection, weeding, floating collections, space allocation, and more. On the eve of the release, the product has already been selected by dozens of public and academic libraries.

Decision Center's key functional areas include evaluation, collection development, balancing, and maintenance. Libraries at last have an easy way to answer key questions and get actionable recommendations that improve library service for their users.

  • How should I allocate funds and what should I buy? - Development tools provide intelligent budget projection and selection tools.
  • How should I balance materials within my library and across locations? - Balancing tools analyze usage of subjects and collections to recommend actions for expansion, deselection, floating management, and shelving allocation.
  • Which items should I weed or move to off-site storage? - Sophisticated metrics that identify underused, overused, irrelevant, and missing items.
  • What should my collection look like in the future based on current trends and past choices? - Match your collections to the needs of your users.

Decision Center is Unique

The information environment of today's library (content, transactions, funds, circulation) is incredibly complex, requiring a solution that goes beyond simple reporting or periodic snapshots of items alone. Decision Center is different.

Business Intelligence - Decision Center utilizes Dynamic Library Intelligence to examine comprehensive data and present automated recommendations never before available to library staff. Decision Center reports on what has happened in libraries, predicts what will happen based on past performance, and prescribes courses of action based on its predictions and library-determined performance targets. Libraries can go beyond report generation and analysis to action steps that match library operations to user needs.

Uses Transaction Information - Generating accurate recommendations requires more than a periodic "snapshot" of item data. By leveraging transactions, holds, acquisitions, and patron data, Decision Center gives libraries a sophisticated picture of their past, present, and future operations.

Provides Supply and Demand Analysis - Decision Center's Supply and Demand analysis revolutionizes the process of purchasing additional copies of popular titles. Instead of using a hold to item ratio, libraries simply input the maximum number of days they want patrons to wait for holds and Decision Center tells them exactly how many copies to purchase to reduce wait time.

"Libraries need advanced tools to help them provide the collections and services their users expect," says Brad Jung, Innovative's Vice President of Product Management. "With Decision Center, libraries have the complete picture of their library's data and actionable recommendations that enable them to spend wisely and work as efficiently as possible."
