London, UK – August 27, 2013. Ex Libris Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the University of Salford in the United Kingdom has gone into production with the next-generation Alma library management solution. After improving its users' discovery and delivery experience with the Ex Libris Primo discovery solution in 2011, the University of Salford has now replaced multiple systems, including its link resolver and its Capita (Talis) library management system (LMS), with Alma, which provides more effective management of library resources.
"The move to Alma is the final piece in our three-year digital library project, which has seen us transform our systems and collections, putting us in a much stronger position to meet the university's strategic objectives," explained Julie Berry, university librarian at Salford. "In particular, we are excited by the opportunities offered by Alma Analytics, which will improve our understanding of how our resources are being used and help us target our support and services more effectively. Overall, the move to Alma went incredibly smoothly. The project management was excellent, and Ex Libris staff responded very quickly to any queries that we had."
Christoph Frech, regional sales director for Ex Libris Europe, commented: "We are delighted to congratulate the University of Salford on joining the growing number of live sites in the European Alma community. Salford has once again demonstrated that Alma is a natural step forward not only for institutions currently using an Ex Libris LMS but also for other libraries looking for a next-generation, cloud based solution. Because Alma can be implemented more quickly and easily than a traditional LMS, the University of Salford began enjoying the benefits of Alma after a swift implementation project that exceeded expectations for speed and staff time required."
