Paris, France—September 30, 2013. Ex Libris Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense has selected the Primo discovery and delivery service, the Primo Central Index of scholarly e-resources, and the SFX link resolver for its research community. A long-standing Ex Libris customer, Université Paris Ouest opted for the company's suite of discovery products to improve the end-user experience at its three associated libraries: the Service Commun de Documentation (SCD), an umbrella organization for the university's libraries; Bibliothèque de Documentation Internationale Contemporaine (BDIC); and Maison Archéologie et Ethnologie, René-Ginouvès (MAE).
Having used the Ex Libris Aleph integrated library system (ILS) since 1999, Paris Ouest wanted to provide a search interface that would help the library publicize the richness of its resources more efficiently. Evelyne Dieckhoff, director of the SCD, commented: "We chose Primo to help the library expose the breadth and depth of our collections and, in particular, to ensure that our extensive electronic resources receive the maximum visibility and use. Additionally, we are delighted that with the inclusion of the Primo Central Index, our users will be able to search, find, and access our materials as well as hundreds of millions of scholarly e resources of global and regional importance. Primo Central displays materials regardless of information provider and helps make licensed and open-access resources equally discoverable—a feature that is especially valuable because it helps our users take advantage of the plentiful, high-quality French open-access resources in the humanities and social sciences."
Looking for a solution that would enable the SCD and affiliated libraries to offer their own institutional view, search parameters, and customized relevance ranking, the University found that Primo meets all these requirements. "We feel strongly that the SCD, BDIC, and MAE should each present a different look and feel while offering the same efficient search technology, powered by a central solution," said Dorothée Benhamou, head of the SCD Library Computing and Digital Editions departments.
Frédéric Lefèvre, director of Ex Libris France, commented: "We're extremely proud to see this important consortial customer expressing its confidence in Ex Libris once again. Paris Ouest's decision validates our strategic commitment to deliver high-quality software that is independent of content providers. This commitment to cutting-edge technology gives our customers a superior mix of functionality, such as OPAC via Primo, unique customizations for consortial implementations, and, in addition, sophisticated relevance ranking tailored to the individual user."
