January 28, 2014 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative announced that Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) in Ohio is live on the Encore Discovery Solution with eBooks from OverDrive, the leading full-service digital distributor of eBooks. With this first commercial integration of OverDrive eBooks into a discovery tool, Encore users have an immediate path to eBook and eAudioBook content, including the ability to view samples, place holds, check out, and select among eBook platforms such as OverDrive Read or Kindle, as well as Web browser and PDF formats. Library users can access functionality in both their desktop and mobile Encore interfaces.
"I have been providing support and training for our library's OverDrive collection since 2009," says Joe Salamon, Internet Specialist at CCPL. "Working with Innovative, in partnership with OverDrive, proved to me that everyone concerned understood the complexities of digital borrowing and were focused on ways to make it easy for patrons. It in turn makes it easier for libraries and library staff to support those patrons."
Salamon continues: "One of our top priorities at CCPL is customer convenience, and now that the integration is live in Encore, our existing eBook customers should find it much easier to locate materials, in real time, using Encore's discovery tools and relevancy ranking. The convenience of seeing checkouts, holds, etc.—both physical and digital items—in one account view is a logical and highly-valued feature that patrons really want! The book-preview feature will really help boost awareness among our non-eBook borrowers of the breadth and accessibility of our growing digital collection."
"We at OverDrive are delighted to have worked with Innovative to create this solution for such an influential and forward-thinking partner as CCPL," said Shannon Lichty, Director of Partner Services at OverDrive. "This is part of our ongoing commitment to providing seamless services for all of our partners, and a simple, integrated user experience for their patrons."
"Innovative is dedicated to providing open-platform tools that allow for the kind of API integration that serve the needs of libraries and their users," says VP of Product Management Brad Jung. "OverDrive is a strong and valued partner to our company, and together we are providing an experience of the modern library that is convenient, immediate, and enriching to users."
CCPL patrons are already taking advantage of seamless access to OverDrive digital content from Encore. The power of the integrated experience can be seen in this example search for "Grisham": http://goo.gl/rfKaea.
Innovative expects the functionality will be available to all Encore libraries in Encore 4.4 during the first half of 2014.
