Damien Brady, City and County Librarian, said: Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council will formally merge into one entity in June 2014 and the Library Service was identified as the first area to be brought together. We now have an integrated system providing a single service to all residents of Limerick City and County and are the first library service on the country to merge their operations. The Library Services have been working on joining their operations for well over a year and had many hours of internal debate on creating a new service bringing the best practices and policies of both services together. Interleaf Technology created custom tools to help us compare our holdings as part of a stock rationalisation process. Having merged the databases in December 2013 we worked very closely with Interleaf to fine tune the new system. The county-wide requests service is already bringing an improved service to our users.

Martin McGovern, Director at Interleaf Technology added: "We were delighted to work with the City and County libraries to bring their two databases together as single entity. The detailed analysis of both databases that we all undertook made it clear how different each library's operations were. There was plenty of discussion to create a solution bringing together the best elements of each system. We were greatly helped by the cooperation and effort of the library team, which was considerable. We have supported both library systems for many years and look forward to supporting the merged Limerick City and County Library service in the years ahead."
