June 26, 2014 -- Toronto, ON. BiblioCommons Inc. announces expanded eBook integration for public libraries to include eBook titles from OverDrive, 3M Cloud Library, and Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 within the BiblioCore catalog.
Working with Seattle Public Library, Boston Public Library, and New York Public Library, BiblioCommons became the first public catalog vendor to fully integrate eBooks to allow discovery, checkout, and management of holds all from within the catalog. The ground-breaking integration went live in January of 2012.
Over the last two years, BiblioCommons has worked with new APIs from eBook providers OverDrive, 3M Cloud Library, and Baker & Taylor to support the goals of the ReadersFirst initiative and to provide seamless access to find, check-out, manage holds, and download eBooks alongside print titles.
"Our customers in both the US and Canada have been very pleased with the integration between 3M and BiblioCommons," said Tom Mercer, Business Manager 3M Cloud Library. "The seamless integration into the catalog coupled with our intuitive apps create more engaged users of digital content for our library customers."
Library patrons using the BiblioCore catalog can now enjoy full catalog API-level integration with OverDrive, 3M Cloud and most recently Baker & Taylor's Axis 360.
"We are excited to partner with BiblioCommons on integrating Axis 360 into their discovery layer," said George Coe, Baker & Taylor's President and CEO. "This integration is another step towards Baker &
Taylor's goal of ensuring all Axis 360 libraries can offer streamlined and easy access to their patrons."
"Our libraries' vision of interoperable eBook services, as outlined through ReadersFirst, gave us our direction," said Patrick Kennedy, President of BiblioCommons. "BiblioCommons was pleased to collaborate with eBook vendors in this important step towards realizing this goal."
The eBook integration is available at no additional cost for any library currently using the BiblioCore catalog.
