We had "critical care" coverage from SirsiDynix for our previous ILS that resulted in six-month lags in some cases between filing a problem report and getting a response. Equinox, our new support vendor, has been extremely responsive. We don't mind paying for service if we get service.

Already open source. Should be a question asked and also is catalog part of a local or state cooperative or consortium. Some may have more flexible in the say of the provider, its selection and ability to improve features. With open source some may be doing their own development and some may be contracting with a vendor like Equinox. Also, I am interested if any of the commercial vendors are considering bidding to be support for Open Source like Evergreen or whoever is supporting Kona and if not why. Also, why not combine all the libraries in a library system in one response instead of asking someone to fill out a response for each branch.

We switched from Innovative in April to Evergreen. Much happier with Evergreen....and saved $25,000 per year.

In the process of Migration to Evergreen, going live on [...].

We are very happy with our open source ILS, Evergreen, and would highly recommend it to other libraries considering a migration. We would also recommend the services of Equinox Software and Alpha-G Consulting.

Evergreen's internal protocol (opensrf) is the same architecture as that used by Google Wave and makes Evergreen easily the most agile ILS on the planet. We have wired Evergreen into environments as diverse as cocoon and excel, and the building blocks (json over jabber) are the same as those adopted by Google for Wave. Anyone who thinks that Evergreen is just another ILS does not understand opensrf.

We didn't use a company to help us migrate, we did it ourselves. We are currently using Equinox's services for some development and I answered the "satisfaction with company" responses based on this experience. You need to alter your questions to accomodate the "do-it-yourselfers" of the open source world.

We are halfway through our 2nd year as an Evergreen library, and despite the learning curve our staff has faced, overall we are very happy with Evergreen and especially with the stellar service we receive from Equinox software. We will be migrating to the latest version of Evergreen, 1.6, in early January 2010.

We have been running Evergreen Open Source ILS since June of 2008 and we are still very happy with our decision to migrate from SirsiDynix. We have saved a lot of money and still get stellar customer service via Equinox Software. We will be moving to version 1.6 of Evergreen in early 2010.

Evergreen is a significant improvement over the proprietary system we had in place before. We've had 99.7% up-time since we went live with it in September, and the staff are very happy with the interface.

While Evergreen has functioned pretty well, it has some serious limitations - lack of compatibility with OCLC for loading records and terrible reports, are two that are very annoying. However, we could not afford to change and there are some real positives too. our patrons love it! They like the search, ability to place holds and renew from home and other features. And the fact that we are part of such a large consortium [...] makes programming and meeting the needs of a wide variety of libraries a challenge for the vendor - Equinox Software, Inc.

I believe this is an open source ILS that we just recently migrated to. It can do many things that our old ILS could not do and it is a system that all the libraries in BC are slowly changing over to. It will be owned and run by the libraries as a group which is a huge benefit to small libraries such as ours.

Each ILS that I have had has unique aspects that I want. I didn't realize that some expensive ILS products don't have some functionality that exists in the smaller, cheaper programs. Evergreen is still quite new, and needs A LOT more development. On the other hand, it has some WONDERFUL functionality in the circulation part of it. What is really needed is a distributor that provides the same level of support that the proprietary systems give their customers.
