Ameritech Corporation, the parent of Ameritech Library Services, has agreed to merge into SBC, an even larger regional Bell operating company. The combined company will be a $146 billion giant. While the new company will be named SBC, the Ameritech name will continue to be used in markets where it is familiar. The merger will take up to a year to complete, and is subject to the approval of regulatory agencies, including the FCC, the Department of Justice, and the Public Utilities Commissions of several states. Lana Porter, President of Ameritech Library Services, does not expect the merger to affect the subsidiary as SEC is as interested in broadening the range of products and services it offers as Ameritech Corporation has been.
Ameritech Library Services has been in an acquisitive mood itself. It has completed the purchase of Dynix Australia, for twelve years a licensed distributor. The company will be renamed Ameritech Library Services Pty Ltd., and will be based in Adelaide, South Australia.
