FirstSearch hours/WorldCat numbers

Library Systems Newsletter [June 1998]

FirstSearch will now be available 24 hours a day except Sundays, when it will be available for 20 hours. The downtime will be from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Sundays. The service, which was launched in 1991, now includes 70 databases, including more than two dozen full-text databases. The fastest growing component of FirstSearch is Electronic Collections Online, the full-text of more than 1,200 electronic journals. The latest journals added are those of Academic Press.

WorldCat, the original OCLC database, now includes more than 39 million unique bibliographic records. The last one million records were added in the previous five months.
