Thus far, the Library of Congress has obtained $37 million in pledges from the private sector to fund the National Digital Library Program. Over 400,000 items are now available online, and several million more are in the pipeline.
Among the recent collections made available is "The Spanish-American War in Motion Pictures." It consists of 52 films shot in the U.S., Cuba, and the Philippines showing troops, ships, notable figures, parades, and reenactments of a number of events. The URL is http://www.loc.gov.
Seven awards under the LC/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition will add a number of other collections, including 5,500 images entitled "Haymarket Affair: Chicago Anarchists on Trial;" 8,500 images under the title "The Emergence of Advertising in America, 1850-1920;" and 2,222 images by Edward S.
