SIRS has begun shipping a new version of its Mandarin automated library system-Mandarin M3 is a client/server product which is full-MARC, Z39.50 version 3, and Year 2000 compliant. The system also supports URL field 856, allowing patrons to search sites on the Web.

Modules include MARC cataloging, data import utility, circulation, inventorying, Windows-based patron access catalog, statistical analysis, and report generator. The base price is $3,500 and includes a year of support and updates. Optional modules include a Z39.50 server and Web gateway module for $2,500, Z39.50 client at $100, and acquisitions and serials control modules at $500 each.

The server software requires a Windows NT 4 or later Pentium processor with at least 64MB of RAM, a hard drive, 3.0 MB per 1,000 titles, and TCP/IP. Pentium machines with 32 MB of memory are recommended as clients. There is an option to use Macintosh System 8 Power PCs with 16 MB of memory for the patron access catalog.
