Gigabit Ethernet standard for CAT 5 UTP

The copper version of Gigabit Ethernet standard is being completed by the IEEE. The IEEE working group 802.3ab met in September to go through comments on the latest draft. The copper version of Gigabit Ethernet will use all four pairs of wires in a Category 5 cable. Final balloting is scheduled for November with publication to follow in March, 1999.
