IBM has launched a major campaign to sell manageable PCs. Its PC 300 PL, a 400 MHz machine introduced earlier this year, includes an enhanced Wake on LAN network-based management feature which allows network administrators to remotely turn systems on and off, as well as to update system software and BIOS. The unit has been selling so well that IBM is offer-ing the feature on several lower-level machines. Competitors, responding to IBM's initiative, are increasingly offering PCs with remote management capability already installed.
