Carl signs large consortium for Dialog@Carl

Library Systems Newsletter [January 1999]

CARL Corporation has signed the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System, a consortium of over 225 libraries, to Dialog@CARL. The patrons of the libraries will be able to use a Web interface designed by CARL to search and retrieve information from Dialog's more than 300 databases without the intermediation of library staff. Full-text is available in over 60 percent of the databases.

While the Dialog@CARL interface provides a point-and-click environment for inexperienced searchers, more complex search features such as Boolean, truncation, proximity, and limiters are also supported for more advanced searchers.

The agreement calls for a flat annual fee, therefore, the libraries will be able to offer unlimited patron use of the service with no transaction fees.
