EOS International, which sold 75 of its "Q" automated library systems in 1998, including 20 to "new name" accounts, is completing work on a course reserves module and launching development of an interlibrary loan module. The former should be available by mid-year, and the latter by the end of the year. The broadening of functionality is a response to an increase in sales to academic libraries. Initially developed for the special library market, EOS's customer base shifted to 85 percent special libraries and 15 percent academic libraries in 1998.
"Q" is a client/server product which uses the UNIX or NT operating system and the Oracle database management system. All of the customers that have installed the product have cataloging, circulation, and patron access catalog modules, and most have serials control modules. Installations tend to be small to mid-size, with the largest to date installed supporting fewer than 100 concurrent users.
