Data Research Associates has announced the results for the second quarter of its fiscal year-the quarter which ended on March 31, 1999. Total revenues were $7.0 million, compared with $8.3 million for the second quarter of 1998. (Its first quarter was also down from $7.5 million to $6.4 million.] Earnings for the second quarter were $210,000, compared with $583,000 for the same period in the previous year. (First quarter earnings were also off from $492,000 to $125,000.]
DRA attributed the second quarter drop to a decrease in hardware sales and to anticipation of Taos delivery. The decline in hardware sales resulted in part because of customers' ability to purchase hardware at attractive prices directly from the manufacturers.
Taos deliveries have also been slower than expected because not all modules were available, Several Taos systems are scheduled to be installed in the current quarter, which ends June 30, 1999, and several more in the fourth quarter, which ends September 30, 1999. A total of 10 Taos installations have been scheduled.
DRA signed seven new contracts during the second quarter, including four for Taos systems-one of them for Clemson University. A fifth customer, a university in France, has contracted for MultiLIS, but is expected to migrate to Taos at a later date.
