Sirsi has released version 99.2 of its Unicorn Library Management System. The new release provides an enhanced serials control module for the company's Workflows staff client. In addition, multi-language versions of its WebCat online public access catalog are now available. The Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish versions were demonstrated at the recent American Library Association Annual Conference. In addition to serving as the main public access catalog for foreign sites, the multi-language WebCats are available to U.S. libraries with a diverse user base. The list of available languages appears near the top of every WebCat page. When a user selects his or her native language, the system will automatically refresh the window, including all labels and images, into that language.
Version 99.2 also includes significant enhancements to the System's Z39.50 capabilities. Among other new features, Sirsi now provides a consolidated display of the MARC Format for Holdings Data.
Sirsi has also announced that it has signed another ARL member, the University of Oklahoma. The University will have two servers, one to support eight libraries in Norman and the other the two medical campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
Sirsi's sales year ended June 30th. The preliminary results show an 80 percent increase in "new name" sales revenues and a doubling of sales to current customers. Twenty-one systems were sold in June alone. Increasingly, Sirsi's sales are software only as customers choose to purchase their hardware directly from the manufacturer. As many as 80 percent of recent customers chose to do so.
