In lieu of traditional textbooks, LSU dental students will purchase digital textbooks provided through VitalSource as part of the school's mandatory student adoption program. VitalSource Technologies VitalSource adds Britannica information to digital library. VitalSource Technologies, Inc. is expanding its reference library by adding two reference works from the editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica. VitalSource customers will be able to choose between the Britannica Student Encyclopedia and the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia when they order IBM ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops preloaded with the VitalSource Library beginning in spring 2005. VitalSource Technologies Schools across the country adopt PC-based digital curricula through partnership with IBM and VitalSource Technologies. VitalSource is developing a Custom Curriculum Solution for each of the districts. Each curriculum is designed to meet the specific needs and educational objectives of those schools. For some schools, VitalSource is replacing textbooks. For others, VitalSource is being used to link primary documents, lesson plans and student assessments. At all of the schools, IBM preloads the VitalSource Technologies vitalsource KEY with Personal Portable Library, a non-customized solution, on education models of its ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops. The Personal Portable Library features more than 3,000 works including history books, art, maps and classic literature. The VitalSource Key is the interface for the texts. [Full Announcement].
