Aleph Support through ExLibris continues to be pretty strong, and the documentation continues to improve. However, Primo support through Ex Libris is somewhat overwhelmed and it sometimes takes a considerable amount of time (sometimes many months) for issues to be resolved. The Primo documentation is also lacking, but I believe they are currently working on improving both of these areas of Primo support. (Type: Special)
College consortium that manages ILS is being dissolved and a new organization is being created by state legislative mandate, so much is uncertain. (Type: Academic)
Experience with another ILS vendor was much more favorable; this library worked directly with the vendor. Now, we are part of a consortia so there's an added layer between this library and the vendor. (Type: Academic)
We expect to move to a next generation library system (e.g. Alma) in the next 2-3 years. The need to have a system that deals with the management of electronic and print resources in an integrated workflow is driving that change. (Type: Academic)
We may encounter problems within our organisation with our preference to move to cloud solutions. problems re authentication, personal and financial data protection, firewalls. We only have Aleph + ARC (statistics) so not the additional functionality that many Exlibris libraries have. (Type: Government Agency)
We are using Metalib Plus (Primo interface with remote metasearch) (Type: Academic)
Have been running Primo as discovery interface since [...] , also MetaLib, SFX and letterly Primo Central and bX. Went live with Aleph [...] , and chose not to install an OPAC but use Primo as the only front end. (Type: Academic)
Here at[...] we implemented Ex Libris Primo, Primo Central and bX recommendations service this year. Primo/Primo Central combination still needs some work in its relevancy ranking/search algorithm in order to show data that is both current and relevant to the users. We are in a fast-pace organization that requires a high-level of accuracy in the results shown by the system and we are still struggling in fine tuning the system. About our ILS we see ALEPH (and other ILS) getting quickly outdated by not giving solutions to face the new challenges posted by the digital information. We believe that ALMA system can put the ILS back on track by offering a more flexible platform for a much more dynamic offer of information products. (Type: Special)
Primo has already been purchased and is in the process of being implemented for the [...] consortium. (Type: Academic)
This library is part of a larger system. Our ILS is maintained and controlled by a central office. The answers I provided are the best I could come up with as a sub-library. (Type: Academic)
We are considering migrating to ALMA ( ExLibris) as party of the [...] consortium upgrade in early 2014 (Type: Academic)
because we are tied to a consortium for our ILS, we are in somewhat of a holding pattern and waiting for decisions to be made at that level about next steps (i.e., will we stick with our current ILS, move to another system, etc.) (Type: Academic)
Organizational changes in the scandinavian/european office of Exlibris group affects the support service when it comes to follow up of contracts. (Type: Academic)
In process of implementing Exlibris discovery system (PRIMO). (Type: Academic)
We are a member of a 10 library consortium, so answering some of these questions can be a difficult because we cannot speak for all. (Type: Academic)
We will go with whatever the consortium decides. We do not have funding or knowledgeable local technology to support our own instance of any ILS. (Type: Academic)
Many library staff would like to switch to a different ILS and/or add a discovery service, but this is complicated by the fact that our catalog is maintained on a consortial basis and shared with some fifty other libraries, many of whom have completely different audiences and needs. Gathering the necessary consensus for change is therefore difficult. (Type: Academic)
I started working here at Briggs Library 10-11 months ago so cannot give long term perspective on satisfaction with current ILS. (Type: Academic)
We are a public library in a multi-type library consortium. ExLibris products are designed primarily for academic libraries, so we often feel that while the functionality is the same in the broad design of the ILS, there are specific public library needs that don't receive enough attention. (Type: Public)
We are very concerned that Ex Libris is moving toward closed systems that generally place restrictions on accessing data through back-end programming. We would like to suggest you consider dividing up questions between the ILS and Discovery systems. Questions about vendor satisfaction should be limited to ILS or Discovery systems, and not one combined ranking. Our satisfaction with the ILS is much higher than with the Discovery system. Another possible question to include is the length of time since a library has implemented their ILS. For example, we implemented Aleph eight years ago and so the question about the terms of the contract and schedule have little bearing on the company's current performance. We might consider open source ILS due to concerns with the direction many commercial vendors seem to be going (e.g. restricted access to data, limited ability to customize locally), but we are currently not staffed for that type of work. (Type: Academic)
Aleph is a complex and sophisticated ILS, very confusing to use at first, but with help from Ex Libris support we've been able to implement features independently, without paying for additional services. It would be very hard to find an ILS that is as functional at reasonable cost. The one feature we're missing is a mobile version of the OPAC for Aleph. (Type: Academic)
In the long term, we are looking to move our data to either a cloud based solution or to a partner's ILS (Type: Academic)
Distributor support is very good, but software developer is not as good as distributor (Type: Academic)
Currently, main support for ILS system is the central [...] office. Especially for a small under-staffed library, they provide a great service. (Type: Academic)
We need to change ILS by Dec. 2013 because our local ILS supplier is discontinuing support for Aleph. (Type: Public)
N/A options would be helpful as we don't deal directly with the ILS vendor. An open source ILS would be wonderful, but one would need to allow for many types of automation--EDI orders, WorldCat Cataloging Partners, employ MARC 21 Holdings, etc. (Type: Academic)
