In 2011, the 48 sites in Huntsville City Schools migrated their libraries to Atriuum and implemented Booktracks, a textbook and asset management software. Prior to this automation project, textbooks and equipment were checked out with pen and paper. With this software, schools were able to track the students and teachers responsible for all materials at all times and send letters to parents including the title and cost of the textbooks students are responsible for returning or paying to replace. Administrators could easily find the location and availability of textbooks, so they could transfer extra copies rather than spending money on more books. Reports show the amount of money recouped for lost items and project the costs for purchasing newly adopted titles.
