Press Release: The Library Corporation [April 25, 2014]

TLC and Baker and Taylor continue partnership through selection of CARL.X

In February 2014, The Library Corporation (TLC) and Baker & Taylor entered into a new contract that continues their ongoing relationship. The longstanding collaboration between TLC and Baker & Taylor will continue to evolve with Baker & Taylor's decision to migrate from the CARL.Solution library automation system to TLC's next generation ILS, CARL.X, as their cataloging software vendor.

In 2001, Baker & Taylor began using CARL.Solution as their cataloging software choice to provide high quality bibliographic records to their library customers. Over the course of the last thirteen years, TLC and Baker & Taylor have successfully partnered on numerous custom development projects and enhancements that have created process and efficiency improvements to Baker & Taylor's daily operations, allowing them to better serve the library community. Additionally in 2013, TLC and Baker & Taylor expanded their relationship further when they announced the first seamless library catalog integration between TLC's LS2 PAC catalog and Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 e-book media platform through the use of APIs. Libraries and patrons alike are now provided with full search and discovery of Axis 360 e-book titles, the ability to view real time e-book availability, and the option to place an e-book on hold directly within the LS2 PAC catalog.

Paul Leppert, Vice President and Managing Director of the TLC Denver Office shared, "TLC and Baker & Taylor have solidified our relationship by their selection of CARL.X. We have worked together on many projects and look forward to the new features that this partnership will bring to our core cataloging product." CARL.X, designed for the world's largest and busiest public libraries, will fully support the over 6 million titles within the Baker & Taylor system. The upgrade to CARL.X will also strengthen Baker & Taylor's service levels to their growing global customer base, benefiting thousands of libraries.

"Our partnership with TLC enables Baker & Taylor to improve the quality of our Customized Library Services for public and academic libraries," said Scott Schuster, Vice President of CLS Operations for Baker & Taylor. "We're looking forward to the upgrade to CARL.X and continuing to expand our capabilities."
