Press Release: Biblionix [October 18, 2017]

Faceted searching is added to Apollo public catalogs

Austin, Texas – October 18, 2017 – Biblionix, the award winning and leading provider of automation solely for public libraries, today announced the addition of faceted searching to its Apollo ILS/LSP (Integrated Library System/Library Services Platform).

Unlike most faceted search implementations, key facets remain accessible as one scrolls through search results. Most facets are presented in pull-down menus for an easy-to-use, compact display. Each facet shows the number of results that would remain if selected. And the selection of a facet instantly adjusts the results without refreshing the page.

"I like that the facet panel pops up but is easily brushed aside. I like the easy-to-follow options and can see many ways they will come in handy," said Tena Hanson, Director of the Estherville Public Library in Iowa. "This will be very intuitive for patrons."

Plus, each library can choose to hide any facet(s) that they do not wish to be displayed. Currently available facets include:

  • Availability
  • Downloadable
  • Medium
  • Material Type
  • Language
  • Reviewed
  • Copyright Year
  • Lexile Measure
  • Accelerated Reader
  • Authors
  • Subjects
  • Series
  • Topics
  • Forms
  • Places
  • Times

Apollo faceted searching can be explored at these sites or any other Apollo library:

  • catalog.htlibrary.org
  • rollinghills.biblionix.com

There is no charge for this enhancement. It was enabled for every Apollo customer on Sunday evening, October 16 and was instantly available to their patrons.

"We are pleased to bring this exciting level of functionality to our customers and their users," said Clark Charbonnet, CEO of Biblionix. "It's another instance of the elegance and intuitive nature for which Apollo is known."
