The Libraries Consortium launches TLC Discover

Glasgow, UK – October 7th, 2022 – SOLUS is pleased to announce that it has launched it's new Discovery Platform with The Libraries Consortium (TLC) in the UK.

Promoted locally as TLC Discover, the platform was officially launched in London today with an initial 9 members of the TLC Consortium live and the remaining 14 going live over the next two months.

TLC Discover will be the library discovery platform for over half of London's 9M people and when Essex and Surrey County Councils go live in the coming month, this will add a further 3M to the background population, accessible via 312 Public Libraries in the South East of England.

Neil Wishart, CEO of SOLUS states, "TLC Discover presents the library in a very different way to library patrons. It's visually very engaging, it places all content front and centre in the user interface and from a user experience, it's more like a commercial grade video streaming platform than a traditional library OPAC.

The initial response from the general public has been overwhelmingly positive and we expect that TLC Discover will help TLC attract new patrons whose expectation of content discovery and access has been shaped by their video streaming experiences!"

Kelly Saini Badwal, Head of Cultural Services, London Borough of Sutton, Lead Partner of TLC states, "We're really excited to launch TLC Discover. It's a huge leap forward from anything we've offered our patrons in the past and we can't wait to see the positive impact it's going to have on the content discovery experience for library users in Sutton. It presents all of our physical and digital content as well as events & room bookings and all our web content in one place and it really is our Digital Front Door!

I'm looking forward to presenting this at the forthcoming Internet Librarian Conference in Monterey and look forward to the reaction from fellow Library Professionals and colleagues."

About TLC

The Libraries Consortium (TLC) is a consortia of 23 Council Library Services and 312 libraries in the South East of England. There is power in our consortium partnership voice – it provides the strength to lead together under a unified plan, and reinforces the concept that each library contributes to the consistent drive needed to innovate, adapt, improve, influence and persuade. The consortium has demonstrated great determination and the ability to innovate – qualities key in forging a community driven library service that our customers deserve. Whilst some members report making savings as a result of being part of the consortium, for others, the consortium enables them to do more with less – providing access to facilities that they could not afford on their own; to the expertise and resources of all its members; and to savings each year.
