McHenry, IL -- April 16, 2024. Noted author Anthony Reibel will headline a virtual event Tuesday, June 4 exploring the definitions of relational teaching and its impact on student learning. Follett Content Solutions and the McHenry County (Illinois) Regional Office of Education are co-sponsoring "Book Talk: Embracing Relational Teaching by Anthony Reibel," which will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. EDT.
Registration for the event closes on Tuesday, April 30.
Admission is $45 for non-Illinois residents and includes a paperback copy of Reibel's book, Embracing Relational Teaching: How Strong Relationships Promote Student Self-Regulation and Efficacy, which will be shipped in advance to registrants. For Illinois residents, admission is $60, inclusive of the book as well as seven hours of professional development credit from the Illinois Regional Office of Education.
Reibel will use his expertise to discuss the concept of relational teaching, a practice that puts the student before the score, their thinking before the product, and improves relationships in teaching.
"Effective teaching is often about how well we attune to students; prioritizing who they are as much as what they know," said Reibel, assistant principal for teaching & learning for Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill. "My experience in education has shown that when we're teaching in the classroom, we revert to traditional, conventional approaches that tend to be more transactional and more impersonal. But when we practice relational teaching and attune to students, we hear them better, see them clearer and connect with them better - and most of the time their performance improves."
