Toronto, ON -- March 24, 2026. Toronto Public Library (TPL) has officially launched a new Digital Experience Platform (DXP) powered by BiblioCommons, providing a more unified, accessible, and modern platform to deliver online experiences for one of the most diverse cities in the world.

As the largest public library system in Canada, TPL serves millions of residents across 100 branches, offering multilingual collections, access to cutting-edge technology, and community programs that support literacy, employment readiness, and lifelong learning. With a strong commitment to accessibility and equity, TPL's digital presence must reflect the same sense of welcome and inclusion that defines its physical spaces.

This launch brings together BiblioCommons products, BiblioCore, BiblioApps, BiblioWeb, and BiblioEvents, into one cohesive Digital Experience Platform. For patrons, this integrated system offers a catalog, website, mobile app, and events registration tools that simplify discovery and engagement.

A Cohesive Experience for a Global City

Lisa Radha Vohra, Collections & Membership Services Director at TPL, shared, "We're thrilled to offer a digital experience that reflects our mission to engage and inspire our community while also improving accessibility and awareness for all users. We're also looking forward to a more stable and future-ready tech environment. This is a big step forward in modernizing how we connect and serve the city of Toronto."

With BiblioCommons, TPL gains a unified foundation that supports personalized discovery, modern system integrations, and long-term platform stability. The result is a digital environment that feels consistent, welcoming, and responsive to the needs of Toronto's diverse communities.

Personalization, Accessibility, and Stability at Scale

The new platform helps TPL offer more relevant book recommendations, programs, and content, while giving patrons control over their account preferences. It also modernizes backend integrations, ensuring a more resilient and future-ready infrastructure.

For a system of TPL's scale, stability and cohesion are critical. By bringing its digital services into a single connected platform, TPL can focus more on community impact and less on managing disconnected tools.

Extending the Library Experience to Mobile

A major milestone in this launch is the introduction of the new TPL mobile app, the library's first dedicated app for patrons. A mobile app has been a consistently requested feature in TPL's customer consultations, and early feedback reflects strong excitement from the community.

The app brings together core library services in one convenient, on-the-go experience. Patrons can browse books, magazines, movies, and music, place holds, track due dates, register for programs, check branch hours, and pay fees directly from their mobile device. App-only features include managing multiple accounts in one place, scanning a book's barcode to check availability, and switching the interface across 11 languages to better reflect Toronto's diverse communities.

Patrons can also access a digital library card within the app for faster, easier checkout at self-service stations. The app complements Libby, giving users more ways to borrow and manage eBooks and audiobooks while keeping their full library experience connected in one place.

By launching its first mobile app as part of the broader Digital Experience Platform, TPL is extending its commitment to accessibility, convenience, and connection beyond library walls, meeting patrons wherever they are.

A Partnership Close to Home

For BiblioCommons, headquartered in Toronto, this partnership is especially meaningful. Supporting TPL represents an opportunity to collaborate in our own backyard with an institution that sets a global benchmark for public library service.

Beyond technology, this relationship reflects a shared commitment to continuous improvement and to building solutions that benefit libraries everywhere. As a strategic Partner Library, TPL will work closely with BiblioCommons to help shape ongoing platform enhancements, ensuring that innovations are grounded in real-world library needs.

Together, Toronto Public Library and BiblioCommons are advancing a digital experience that mirrors the openness, accessibility, and civic value of public libraries.
