CASPR Announces LibraryNet-- an Internet Library WEB Server: Libraries can now publish their collections through the Web

Boston, MA, USA -- June 9, 1996. CASPR, Inc. announced the LibraryNet WEB Server at the Special Library Association (SLA) Annual Conference. LibraryNet is a complete online patron access catalog (OPAC) server written to allow all standard WEB browsers to search libraries.

LibraryNet is a multi-user server application that supports WEB browsers in searching a library collection over an internal Intranet or the Internet. Now school, business, higher education and public libraries have an easy, inexpensive and powerful means for publishing their collections through the World Wide WEB. LibraryNet uses standard HTML tags which allows all popular WEB browsers, including Netscape, Mosaic, Microsoft's Internet Navigator and Apple's Cyberdog to access and search library collections.

LibraryNet is 100% compatible with CASPR's existing LibraryWorks data files. CASPR's customers can publish their existing libraries on the WEB without any data conversion. WEB searchers can browse the same collection at the same time items are being cataloged and circulated. Libraries that are not using LibraryWorks can still use LibraryNet. A utility program called LibraryMaker allows all standard library programs to be converted into LibraryNet for publishing.

LibraryNet allows searching by keyword, author, title, and subject. Author, title and subject indexes can be browsed to locate hard to find items. Full Boolean search expressions (AND, OR and NOT) are supported as well as left and right hand truncation searching. Patron information can be called up to verify items on loan or overdue. A virtual shelf allows the user to 'walk' up and down the electronic shelves.

According to Norman Kline, President of CASPR, "This is a very exciting product for the library community. A corporation can now place a library on their home page and fully integrate the traditional resources with the digital information highway. User's have a consistent dashboard to navigate through data, regardless of its location. Schools can now publish their collections on the WEB. Parents can assist their children in accessing the local schools' collection right from home through all popular online services, such as America Online (AOL), CompuServe or NetCom. "

LibraryNet is a multi-threaded server application which runs on a Macintosh computer. It takes advantage of many advanced Macintosh features including native PowerPC code, AppleThreads and OpenTransport. LibraryNet uses only standard HTML tags to implement the client user interface. Data is stored in the ANSI Machine Readable (MARC) standard. LibraryNet is a state of the art WEB server designed specifically for the needs of libraries.

Pricing of LibraryNet is based on the number of concurrent users accessing a single server. The following Servers will be available at product ship.

5 Concurrent Users $1295.00
10 Concurrent Users $1495.00
25 Concurrent Users $1995.00
50 Concurrent Users $2495.00
