May 29, 2025. VitalSource Announces Strategic Partnership with Open Syllabus to Advance Open Data and Course Development Innovation. VitalSource, a global leader in higher education course materials delivery, announced today its strategic partnership with Open Syllabus, the nonprofit research organization dedicated to building a global archive of curricular information and data-driven tools for teaching and learning. Through this collaboration, VitalSource will provide technical development support to Open Syllabus to accelerate its mission and expand its services for educators, institutions, and researchers. VitalSource will also integrate select Open Syllabus data and capabilities, such as the premium version of its Analytics platform, across its course materials ecosystem.


April 22, 2025. VitalSource acquires RedShelf. VitalSource announced it has acquired RedShelf, the Chicago-based course materials distributor servicing hundreds of US higher education institutions. The acquisition expands VitalSource's network of institutional and publisher partners, providing additional scale and talent to drive affordability and outcomes in a rapidly evolving landscape.


October 10, 2023. APA launches first of its kind digital workbook powered by VitalSource's award-winning tools. VitalSource and the American Psychological Association announced the release of the Mastering APA Style Student Workbook, developed by APA and powered by VitalSource. The first-of-its-kind accessible and responsive digital workbook leverages a learning science principle known as the “Doer Effect,” the proven idea that practicing leads to learning, by engaging users with interactive questions and graded quizzes to help students learn APA Style more effectively.


September 19, 2023. VitalSource goes Carbon Neutral. VitalSource announced that the company hit its environmental sustainability goal to be a carbon neutral organization for 2023 and is committed to carbon neutrality for the future. To better understand, and ultimately reduce, the company's impact on the environment, VitalSource enlisted the help of experts from Watershed Technologies, a top carbon accounting company, to translate its business activities into accurate greenhouse emissions totals. VitalSource invests in clean power generation and reforestation around the world to offset its operational controllable emissions.


March 20, 2023. VitalSource acquires Akademos. VitalSource has acquired Akademos. This acquisition unites two organizations with the purpose of driving student success, affordability, and impact through next-generation technology and brings together complementary course materials distribution expertise. This acquisition greatly accelerates and enhances VerbaOne, VitalSource's recently announced Equitable Access program for independent campus stores.


August 20, 2019. Barnes & Noble Education Partners with VitalSource to strengthen BNC FirstDay Inclusive Access Platform,. Barnes & Noble Education, Inc., a leading provider of educational products and services solutions for higher education and K-12, announced a new agreement with VitalSource, part of Ingram Content Group. Under the agreement, VitalSource's technology will power the BNC FirstDay inclusive access platform, bringing together VitalSource's advanced technology and Barnes & Noble College's unparalleled campus and publisher relationships.

June 1, 2007. VitalSource Technologies among first technology companies to adhere to newly released Digital Publishing Standard OPS 2.0. VitalSource Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of digital book solutions, today announced that it has added OPS 2.0 (*.epub) to its content submission guidelines. OPS 2.0 was collaboratively developed by members of the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF), the international trade and standards organization for the digital publishing industry, to streamline the delivery of content to the marketplace. OPS 2.0 was officially released by IDPF on May 16.
